August 29 Kids With GunsGot tired of writing solely about health, so I thought I'd mix it up this month with a little music. I've been listening to the Gorillaz for the past couple weeks and I can't get enough of them. Specifically the song, "Kids with Guns." It's this mellow, laid back song about something rather disturbing and violent. I love the combo. I also picked up Rilo Kiley about a month ago. At first I loved the indy feel of the music. The tunes were catchy and hip. Then after about a week, the lyrics started to grade at me. They were just a bit TOO ironic. The cleverness and sauciness were spoiling the good old fashioned tunes. I still like a couple of the songs, but I can't listen to the whole album in succession anymore. On the health front, I've been making headway with new websites like this one that explains how to deal with stress. It's some vitamin shoppe goodness if ever there was vitamin shoppe goodness. Whatever that means. July 11 Health Links for the WeekendThe weekend is here, and I know you all need a prescription strength dose of health 2.0 links, so here we go!.... Vitamin World - No, it's not the popular national chain vitamin store, it's just a little health blog with some good tips and tricks. Can't tell you why they chose the same name as the huge health food supplier, but doesn't mean it's an amatuer blog! Best Multivitamins - Like it sounds, if you're into multivitamins, you'll get a kick out of this site. It's more for the hard core enthusiast than anyone else, not everbody's cup of tea. Damage Control - Damage Control is actually a whole line of elite multivitamins sold by Mark Sisson's company, Primal Nutrition. They include all the essential vitamins and minerals, plus several highly potent antioxidant, and energy producing supplements. Caveman Diet - Not for the faint of heart, the caveman diet uses the model of primal man as a basis of how people should eat and what their daily physical activities should be. The caveman diet emphasizes high protein, mostly meats and vegetables, with a minimal amount of carbs and sugars (mostly in berry form). It's not an easy diet, but it's extremely effective when it comes to toning body muscle and losing weight. June 10 Funky Fish Oils and Omega 3 BenefitsI have a love/hate relationship with Fish oil capsules. The omega 3 benefits are great. In fact, if there's one supplement I'd take other than a multivitamin, it would be those little omega 3 capules. Amino acids are good for the brain, good for the heart, good for the muscles. Like milk, they do a body good (and I'm not entirely convinced milk DOES a body good, at least, not as good as fish oil gels). But then there's the smell. Hygiene is big for me. I just can't kiss a girl if she's got bad breath. It's a deal breaker, doesn't matter if she's Cindy Crawford, or Lucy Lawless, or whatever girls are hot right now and over the age of 22. If they've got bad breath, they're gone. Same thing with guys. I just can't be around people who stink up the air that way. And fish oil capsules are HORRIBLE in the breath department. Fish burp is just disgusting, no two ways about it. If you ever taking any number of omega 3 vitamins, you know what I'm talking about. I used to tell people to put the caps in the freezer so the coating would take a little while to thaw in your stomach and cut down on the fish burp. This works to a degree, but its still not perfect. Well, the other day, I tried a new kind of omega 3 capsule. It had a protective coating on it that took longer to dissolve, thus no fish burp. Problem SOLVED!!! I'm back on the pills. The omega pills, the best multivitamins, and the vitamin information, it's what I'm all about. Oh yeah, and did I mention I've been working out? That's right, I've almost got washboard abs! Just a few more months to go and I'll be a regular Bruce Lee (fingers crossed). May 14 Bowel Movements on a High Fat Diet I recently found this helpful post about abs on a high fat diet. It goes through the basics of getting washboard abs without exerting ridiculous amounts of stress and doing hours of repetitive, boring, workouts. So I went on a high fat diet. High fat, low carb to be more specific, and I've been taking an assortment of multivitamins from companies like Primal Nutrition to boost the antioxidant level in my body. But, I've been having weird bowel movements recently. Nothing terribly out of the ordinary, I'd just call them "stronger" and maybe a little bit runnier. I guess the main thing is, I use to be able to hold a bowel movement for most the day if I needed to. Now I don't think I could make it 10 minutes once my bowels get pumping. Sorry for the gross nature of this post, but they can't all be winners. Just remember to keep on and buy vitamin supplements, or you'll waste away and die. Ha, ha, not really. April 21 What can people find out about orthorexia nervosaDo you have orthorexia nervosa? You might.... Do you obsess over healthy eating? Have you ever chosen to eat nothing at a restaurant simply because the restaurant had no food which fit your health requirements. Do you often skip meals as a way of maintaining health. Do you restrict all milk, meat, carb, and processed food intake? Do you know exactly how many calories you eat every day? Do you spend more on supplementation per month than you do on food? If you answer yes to one or two of these, you might just be health conscious, but if you answered yes to all of the questions, you might be afflicted with orthorexia nervosa. Orthorexia is an eating disorder that involves restricting the diet for the sake of health to the point that the restriction actually becomes unhealthy. So, what can people find out about orthorexia nervosa? Not much, right now as it isn't as common as bulemia or anorexia, but it's something worth researching. |
